Mac Mini M1 storage from iMac

I have a 1T iMac 27" (late 2013) running Catalina. Want to be able to use the latest MacOS but my iMac can't go beyond Catalina. If I buy a Mini M1

will I be able to move 600GB from the iMac to a Mac Mini?

Easiest solution, just buy a 1TB external drive and copy data from the iMac to it and just plug it into the new Mini.

Pricier solution, buy a MacMini with a 1TB or larger drive and use Migration Assistant to transfer data from the iMac to the Mini.

you can share some of the imacs dirs over the network

or you can take out the 1tb hd from the imac and put it in an external usb enclosure and connect it to the mini m1
