pip stops working when offscreen

On my device (iPhone Xs iOS 16) when I am playing Picture in Picture and drag it offscreen to focus on something else it will play audio for a short period then stop? Is this a feature I can turn off or some form of bug?

iPhone XS, iOS 16

Salutations davis206,

When you go to return the video does it restart? Which app are you using to play the video?

There is some basic troubleshooting we can take to begin isolating the situation -

1. Restart your iPhone and test again Restart your iPhone

2. Make sure we’re working with iOS 16.1 and the latest app update for the app How to manually update apps on your Apple device

3. Test on multiple networks such as Wi-Fi and cellular

4. Test with different content, for example the videos here Apple Events

Let us know the results and we can continue targeting the troubleshooting.

Thanks.
