Safari is not loading or slow to load after update to Ventura. On the same Mac, Chrome loads and runs normal

How do I get Safari to load and run with normal efficiency after updating to Ventura?

Mac mini 2018 or later

Hey, lc215.

We have a couple of steps that will help isolate the issue a bit more.

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support -- Restart your Mac in safe mode and see if Safari opens like it should there. Whether or not it does, restart your Mac normally to exit. Please be aware that starting in safe mode takes a bit longer than normal.

"How to use safe mode

Determine whether you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, then follow the appropriate steps:

Apple silicon

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
  3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
  4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window."

If the issue didn’t happen while in safe mode, test the issue again after a normal restart.

Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support -- If Safari wouldn’t open in safe mode or stopped responding after restarting, create a new user account using the steps on this page of the macOS User Guide. Once it’s created, log out of your own account and into the new one and test.

Please let us know the results when you're able.

All the best.

Thank you for the response, but these are all the steps that I have tried prior to posting. The issue is still ongoing with Safari running slow and just freezing while loading sites that I have used prior to the update without issue. Looking at other posts and online chats, this seems to be a common theme currently with Safari. Hopefully there is a quick update that will fix the issue so I do not have to migrate over to Chrome.

Hi lc215,

From what you described in your original post, here is what we recommend: If Safari on Mac doesn't open a webpage or isn’t working as expected

Next, we'd like to show you how to perform the recommended troubleshooting steps via the link above. Please click to open the link, read through it, and try the steps in the subheadings below.

1) Reload the page
2) Check Safari extensions
3) Check Safari settings
4) Test with a private window
5) Install software updates
6) Check VPN or other security software
7) Check network settings

The reason why we are recommending the steps above is because they will show you what to do if Safari isn't working as you expect on your Mac.

If you’re still experiencing the same issue, then give the steps here a try: If your Mac runs slowly

If the original problem persists after trying the previous steps, please provide us with specifics on what you see for more help, and we will continue from there.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!

This also proved to be unsuccessful with changing the load speed and continues to freeze. I reinstalled Ventura and also just performed the update to 13.0.1, but still am experiencing issues with safari not loading properly. I am not an IT person so changing the proxy or DNS is way out of my comfort zone, especially when Chrome seems to work just fine with the WiFi setting. I have also recently updated my MacBook Pro and am experiencing the same load issues. Frustrating

I have disabled/changed settings for IPv6 on my AirPort and it seems to sort out Safari slowness problem (also Firefox had issues connecting)

I’ve also disabled Hide IP address from trackers and Prevent cross-site tracking in Safari (unsure if that has anything to do with the issues tho)

Clearly there are some bugs in Ventura and/or Safari, but why also Firefox? no clue.

Sorry Apple Specialists, but your advice is rubbish. It can't be that network connectivity is live, VPNs, Messenger, WhatsApp and most important Firefox have instant connectivity, while Safari hangs loading ALL pages!

I just upgraded to Ventura, thinking that this version is stable, "enough". Safari works for a couple of hours and then suddenly quits. Any tab fails to connect. This is reported worldwide and you post nonsense advice. Instead do it the other way around. Ask the technical team to reach-out these users directly! It's like selling a car that would quit after a couple of hours in the middle of nowhere. Don't be like your competitor of the 90's that collapsed on its arrogance!

The only way to fix the issue for me is to reboot. If I wanted to reboot every two hours or so, I would be on Windows 95.
