duplicate photos that are not duplicates

Slowly but surely Ventura is finding duplicate photos in my library. Although it's at one to two pairs of photos per day....

I have a situation where it thinks it's a duplicate, but it's not a duplicate. How can I mark it or tell the photos app in Ventura that it's not a duplicate and do not merge or delete one?

"just ignore them" might work for some, but its not a great fix for me.

It's great to have the new Duplicates function, but if i end up with too many that I'm ignoring, I'll need a new function to find which searches the Duplicates folder to find which are real duplicates and which are ignored !

An "ignore" button would be a great help.

I have been in contact with Apple support regarding the need for an 'Ignore' button to confirm that identified duplicates are in fact, or the Users view, not duplicates. This is being fed back for attention. I have also demonstrated the duplicates that don't merge. I was asked to Repair and Restore the Library and let it re-run Duplicate Finding so that this behaviour can be explored further. This is underway now.

I ended up with some 75 files identified as duplicates but they are not in my opinion duplicates. I have formally lodged with Apple Support and their Feedback form. Apple › feedback

I also have some 230 files which are duplicates which refuse to merge. I can manually edit them to consolidate metadata to the best version and then delete the unwanted files. I have supplied to Apple Support a video recording of an attempted merge of 2 of these duplicates not working. This is being passed to their software engineers to get them working to (hopefully) fix the issue.

There is no way to tell Photos that a pair of apparent duplicates sire not duplicates. Just ignore them.

Most of the duplicates shown by Photos in my library are duplicates I created intentionally, because I need differently edited versions of the same photo for different purposes. Photos will not merge them, unless you tell Photos to merge them.

I've cleared almost all of the duplicates it found (by deleting one of each pair, or by merging them).

But I've got a lot of files that Photos marks as "Unable to upload", and I've found that by copying them to my desktop, and then back into photos, the new version will upload, but obviously I'm left with a duplicate.

So I've added a few hundred photos back last night, but I checked today and they do not appear as duplicates.

Photos says "Photos will finish scanning for duplicates when you’re not using the app."... do they mean (a) quit Photos and shut down (b) Quit Photos but leave your mac running or (c) Don't quit Photos but leave it in the background without using it...?

I've tried all three but it still doesn't seem to be updating the duplicates.

It is a pity, that we cannot even filter the Duplicates album for keywords. Otherwise we could the photos want to be searched for duplicates with a keyword and remove this keyword from the photos that should be skipped.

One thing that is working for me, however, is hiding one of the photos of the duplicate pair, where I want to keep both versions. As soon as one photo of a pair is hidden, the pair will vanish from the list of duplicates. we can put the hidden photos back, once we have finished merging the duplicates. when I unhide the previously hidden photos, they do not reappear in the list of duplicates.
