iOS 16 photo shuffle not using edited versions

Hello!

I just upgraded to iOS 16, and I’m loving the new photo shuffle feature—except for one thing that’s bugging me. I have several photos that are edited (rotated and cropped), but when they show up on my wallpaper, it’s only the unedited versions.

Many of these photos were accidentally taken in landscape rather than portrait orientation, so it’s a very noticeable difference between the original and the edit.

Is this something I can fix?

Best,

Winn

Hey there Winn,

We'd like to help rule out some possible causes to this occurring:

  1. We see you have iOS 16, but the latest version is iOS 16.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  3. As another way to use the edited photo as a wallpaper, are you able to select a photo to use from within Photos after editing it?

Cheers!

Hi, thank you for the response!

1) I’ve updated to 16.1, with no changes

2) I’ve also restarted my phone (after updating), which hasn’t done the trick either.

3) when I select an individual photo in Photos to use as wallpaper, it works just fine and uses the edited version! I tried it again just now and that works great—it seems to be specifically the photo shuffle mode that’s misbehaving.
