iPhone contacts

i have just come back from holiday in Europe and my contacts phone numbers have changed to a different format (right number but differently spaced) and they are no longer recognised when I try to call. Any suggestions how to fix this? I have an iphone12

iPhone adds +1 to numbers and making them undeliverable My phone has my contacts listed numbers like (315) ***-**** When I try to text to one of those numbers, a 1 gets added to the front of the number, and then I get an undeliverable message saying the number has too many digits. Settings, Phone, turn off dial Assist (or if it is off turn it on) and see what happens

You are advised to have all your phone numbers in international format

eg +44 7890 123456 rather than 07890 123456
