Retiring an old Apple ID

I have ‘lost’ my old Apple ID due to my email changing- I cannot recover it or change the password, this means I appear to be stuck with it when I buy a new device. . I have set up a new Apple I D but can’t put my new iPad on this -It keeps asking for my old Apple ID password and I can’t use the new ID with the new device and my old apps. Any ideas?

You can change your Apple ID email address on your old Apple ID so you retain access to your data and prior purchases. Note the restrictions in the article.

Apple ID Name Change.  *

Make sure you turn off Find My Phone before signing out of the old ID. Once signed out and Find My Phone is off, then sign in with the new ID, then turn Find My Phone back on.

What to do after you change your Apple ID or password - Apple Support  *  I suggest doing this before you change your Apple ID or password.

Sounds like you may need to add a Trusted Device.

  1. Go here: Manage Two-Factor Authentication for your Apple ID from iPhone - Apple Support
  2. Scroll to: Add another device as a trusted device

To Get the eMail and Phone Number Changed...

Contact Apple Support: Ask the Apple Rep to modify it over the phone. If permitted to do so, then inform to modify the Phone Number associated to your Apple Account, to what it should be. Important: Perform a Trial & Error login session with the Apple Rep prior to ending the phone call.

Contact ApleSupport.

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there as Necessary
  • Why the Wait: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due to lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)
