After upgrade to Ventura - apps damaged, cannot be opened

Several apps that I regularly had been using under Monterey no longer would open when I upgraded to Ventura, given error that the app were "damaged". These included FileMaker Pro, Mathematica, and Intego NetBarrier.

This is a result of Ventura's tighter lock-down of the system. Thought I'd give a heads-up to others encountering the same issue

The remedy was to open System Preferences > Privacy & Security. Then:

  1. Go to Developer Tools and add the allegedly damaged app there; and
  2. near the bottom of the Privacy & Security panel, where the app was identified as not allowed to open, to click the button to allow it to open.

I'm not sure that both 1. and 2. are both needed..

for your third party software

If in doubt refer to the developers website; Support/Help/FAQ/known issues/compatibility/updates/uninstall:

Contact a third party vendor

Contact a third-party vendor - Apple Support

I will add—

Typically third party Anti-Virus does nothing but add issues and compete directly with Apple’s® own built in Security:

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/Anti-Virus/VPN
