I am trying to clear up space on my iCloud storage so wondering if deleting all these pictures from it, that are actually saved on Google photos will delete them from

No. As mentioned above, Apple and Google are two complete separate entities. So, download all of iCloud first, and then perform the deletion. Use my user tip: Getting a Quick and Direct "iCloud Drive-to-External Hard Drive" Download - User Tip
