I am trying to record in GarageBand using my acoustic electric guitar I have a quarter inch adapter to USB-C cable. I am plugging it into my iPad Air for directly but it isn’t recording any sound. Is there a way to do this just using the USB-C to quarter-inch cord or do I need an interface?
You could try something like a USB-C to 1/8 inch ( 3.5mm ) audio adapter, like the one from Apple.
Buy USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter - Apple
Then purchase an 1/4 inch audio jack to 1/8 inch ( 3.5mm ) audio adapter from some other online location, like from Amazon.

Also, you may need to purchase an audio interface box that is compatible with Apple iOS devices.
