Screenshot tool on Mac - No Step Back?

Is there really no such option as a step back?

I can't believe it.

I take a screenshot, make a couple of notes on it, shapes, arrows, then I make a mistake or just create a line by mistake and want to delete it. Take a step back. But how?

I only see the "revert" option but that deletes everything.

There usually is a menu in the upper left corner of the display for each and every application, except for the Screenshot.

Perhaps you're using a different application? My screen grabs open in Preview by default and there's an Undo feature in the Edit Menu. I've tried it just now and it seems to do for me what you're asking.

Personally, I can't stand that floating thumbnail. The only point I can see for it is if you wish to be able to quickly access a screenshot to edit it in Markup (which I may do to one in a hundred screenshots I take), but from what you've said, even that is pretty limited. I disabled the feature long ago. If you feel you have no need for it, and don't want to wait four of five seconds for the thumbnail to disappear before you can access the screenshot, the following link describes how to turn it off.
