Hello Badapple01,
We'd like to provide you with a few steps that may be able to assist you with using iTunes, to manually back up your device:
1. Make sure that your Mac or PC is up to date. If you're using iTunes, make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.
2. Connect your device to your computer with a USB cable and locate your device on your computer. If your device doesn't appear in Finder or iTunes, find out what to do. If you've forgotten your passcode or your device is disabled, find out what to do.
3. Restart all of your devices.
4. If you're using a Mac, skip this step. If you're using a Windows PC and iTunes won't respond or your backup won't ever finish, you may need to update, change, disable or uninstall your security software.
5. If you own more than one computer, try to make a backup on another Mac or PC. Or use iCloud to back up your device and restore information from your iCloud backup.
6. If an alert appears stating that an error has occurred, your backup is corrupted or incompatible or there's not enough disk space, take a look at the information below about each error message to find out what to do next.
More details here: If you can't back up your iOS or iPadOS device to a computer or restore it from a backup
If you need further assistance, let us know what happens when trying to create a backup. For example, if you're receiving an error message. We'll do our best to assist you.
Take Care!
I tried all listed in the solution below except for an iCloud backup to no avail. I don't use iCloud and backup to the second HD on my PC. I now have the iTunes backup working. I used a free program called Revo Uninstaller to uninstall iTunes. Revo does a normal uninstall followed by removing any leftover Registry items and leftover files. I then went into where iTunes was installed and deleted all folders including iTunes. After that, I installed an older version of iTunes, version 12.11.0.26. After syncing my iPhone a backup was done normally as before. I haven't updated iTunes to the latest update and don't know if that update corrupted the program or not. If I update again, I may have to waste my time and do the above all over again. Maybe Apple will fix the issue with a later iTunes update?
I had a chat with an Apple tech the other day and have an Apple case number. The tech was unable to solve this issue and said someone above him would call me in 15 minutes. Also, I never got an email from Apple about the case. That never happened and that is the reason I'm using the ID name 'Badapple01'. It is representative of the bad Apple support.
