Issue with storyboards transition in iMovie

When I create a storyboard and try to add clips it removes the default transitions so that when each clip finishes it just cuts into the next clip with no transition at all. Is there a way to stop this from happening or a way to edit the transitions in between the clips in the storyboard?

I’ve just checked this and that’s what it does for me too. In Storyboard mode you can see the transitions by tapping on a banner and selecting ‘Edit Clip’ (this shows a timeline view), but you can’t edit the transitions they put in place.

I’m not sure on what causes this but it seems that if you change the Style (tap the shiny filmstrip icon at the top of the main editing menu), the transitions change again. I imagine iMovie looks at your clips and the Style and decides which transition it thinks is appropriate. In Magic Movie and Storyboard mode, you can’t overrule that.
