Have to repeat Apple TV 4K Siri commands to get them to work

Immediately after installing the latest appletv (4k) os update (16.0), when I use my Siri remote to speak a command to execute a scene in HomeKit (lights on command), I now initially get the message “Sorry, I couldn’t find anything like that in your home”. I then repeat the exact same Siri command and it properly executes the scene. Wait 5 minutes, do it again and again I have to repeat the command to get it to work. Same scene command executed on iPhone works just fine, no repeat necessary.

Thoughts ?

Hello crsanders,

Thanks for your post to Apple Support Communities. We understand you are having issues with using your HomeKit accessories from your Apple TV commands. Let's walk through a few steps together to narrow down the issue. You mentioned you don't have any issues executing the same commands from your iPhone.

Is your Apple TV serving as your home hub?

Do you have an app that also works with your HomeKit accessories (lights?)?

Is your Apple TV on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone?

Do you notice an issue with Siri responding to any other requests through your Apple TV remote?

Those details will help us start to narrow down what might be causing the issue. We'd also recommend fully power cycling your Apple TV:

  1. Press and hold both the Back < (second-generation Siri Remote) or Menu (first-generation Siri Remote) and TV   buttons on the Siri Remote until the Apple TV status light blinks rapidly.
  2. Disconnect Apple TV from the power outlet, wait five seconds, then reconnect it.

Then, test your Apple TV again to see if HomeKit or Siri still has an issue responding. We'll start there. We look forward to hearing back from you.

Take care.

Thank you for your response

Yes, the appletv 4k in question here is our home’s hub

All HomeKit devices have parent apps that are working fine with the devices controlled by the scene I am using, all have latest firmware, etc - my problem is when I use an Apple HomeKit Scene to control the devices - in this case two separate lighting switches - all was working fine for past several years until recent Apple TV iOS update to 16.

Yes all devices are on the same network

Other SIRI commands work fine (eg “open app”, “What’s the temperature”, etc)

I went into the settings and toggled on and off this appletv being the hub, then I forced a restart like you recommended, then i pulled the plug, waited and plugged the power cable back in

Tested SIRI again to turn on a “scene” and it worked fine, recognized the scene and executed it without problem. Then later in the day returned and tried again only to have the same issue where it responds saying it can’t find anything like that, then I repeat the same command and it works fine. When I am done with the lights being on, I issue a command for it to use another scene that turns them off and again it says can’t find anything like that, so I repeat and it works fine.
