After you subscribe for the iCloud+ with 50GB storage you may store data up to 50GB which may include Whatsapp Chat History.
After you transfer the Whatsapp backup to your new iPhone you may discontinue iCloud+ from the next month onwards. However, please note that keep all your Whatsapp chat history on your device because once you downgrade the storage to the default 5GB you may not be able to access the backup data.
