Apple Watch 6 series pairing problem

Hi, I’m trying to pair my Apple Watch 6 series with iPhone 12 Pro Max for the first time. After pairing, iPhone displays this message : unable to check for update, checking for a software update failed because you are not connected to the internet.

PS: my iPhone is connected to both wifi and 5G. iOS 16.2. Bluetooth is on.

Please advise. Thank you.
