How do I sync iCloud Keychain between devices

I have iCloud Keychain enabled on my phone and on my Mac. The passwords just won't sync between the two devices.

I have reset the keychain on my Mac once already... not going through that again.

How does this work?

Hey there ajpen,

If you have iCloud Keychain set up on your iPhone, then follow the steps below to set it up on an additional device:

When you turn on iCloud Keychain on an additional device, your other devices using iCloud Keychain receive a notification requesting your approval of the additional device.

On one of your other devices, approve the additional device. Your iCloud Keychain automatically begins updating on the additional device.

To approve iCloud Keychain when you don’t have access to your other devices, follow the onscreen instructions to use your iCloud Security Code.

Take care!

Thanks for the clarification. We apologize about any miscommunication!

If the iCloud Keychain passwords aren't syncing, you can get troubleshooting steps in the Apple Support article If iCloud Keychain won't turn on or sync - Apple Support, specifically the information below from the "If you don't see your iCloud Keychain items" section:

There are several possible reasons for why you can't find your iCloud Keychain information.

Did you restore from an iCloud backup and then notice missing iCloud Keychain items?

iCloud Keychain items aren't part of iCloud backup because they already live in the cloud. To see if iCloud Keychain is turned on, in iOS 10.3 or later, tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Keychain. For iOS 10.2 or earlier, tap Settings > iCloud > Keychain.

Did you turn off iCloud Keychain on all your devices?

If so, your iCloud Keychain is removed from the cloud. If you chose to delete the keychain items from your devices when you turned off iCloud Keychain, your iCloud Keychain is also removed from those devices. You need to set up iCloud Keychain and add items again.

If you turn off iCloud Keychain on all your devices, and choose to delete your iCloud Keychain locally on all your devices, this also deletes your Keychain data from iCloud servers.

On your Mac, did you use Keychain Access to reset your iCloud Keychain?

If so, macOS deleted your iCloud Keychain items. Try to set up iCloud Keychain again. If you need to reset your Mac Keychain again, temporarily disable iCloud Keychain in iCloud Preferences before you reset your macOS Keychain.

If you continue to have difficulty with iCloud Keychain syncing, please reach out to Apple Support directly. They'll have access to additional tools and resources to further assist with the sync. They're available here: Get Support.

Have a wonderful weekend.

My problem is not that I want to add an additional device.

I have iCloud Keychain set up and enabled on both my Mac and my iPhone, however the passwords are not syncing between the devices. When I add or change a password or login on my Mac it does not update on my iPhone and vice-versa.

All other iCloud services seem to sync properly.
