imessage and facetime number expiring

I am spending a semester abroad and have temporarily suspended my US Verizon service and have a local SIM inserted. However I have been able to continue receiving iMessage and FaceTime using my US number, easier for friends and family to reach me. This number will be reactivated when I return in less than 3 months and people will continue to be able to reach me. But now I receive a message saying in a few days I will no longer be reachable at my suspended number. How do I get iMessage and FaceTime to continue receiving iMessages and FaceTimes at my US number? It is still my number. When I get back to US I will be re-inserting my SIM and continuing the service at that existing number.

Hi sbgarvey,

We understand you want to continue using iMessage and FaceTime without having access to your suspended phone line. You're able to receive iMessages and FaceTime calls using your Apple ID. Take a look at the steps and article below to complete the setup.

1.For Messages, go to Settings > Messages and make sure that iMessage is on. If asked, sign in with the Apple ID you're using with Messages and FaceTime on your iPhone. Then tap Send & Receive.

2.For FaceTime, go to Settings > FaceTime. If asked, sign in with the Apple ID that you're using with Messages and FaceTime on your iPhone.

3.Turn your phone number off:

4.To turn on your Apple ID email , select it and your Apple ID in the “You can be reached” section.

5.To turn off your phone number, uncheck it.

Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime

Have a good day.
