Why is Driving Focus turning off automatically while I’m driving?

I have my driving focus set up so I manually enable it before I begin driving. However, every time I drive, it is disabled at some point in the middle. I got a call the other day which was distracting. My phone isn’t connected to CarPlay or a Bluetooth stereo, so why is it doing this?

Hello icbogue,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help ensure the focus stays on while driving so that you're not distracted by unwanted calls.

We see you viewed the Apple Support page for Use the Driving Focus on your iPhone to concentrate on the road - Apple Support

Let's make sure the Driving Focus is set to manually with these steps:

"Turn on the Driving Focus automatically

  1. Go to Settings > Focus, then tap Driving.
  2. Tap While Driving under Turn on Automatically, then select one of these options:
    • Automatically: Driving will be activated based on detected motion.
    • When Connected to Car Bluetooth: Driving will be activated when your iPhone is connected to car Bluetooth devices.
    • Manually: Driving can be activated manually from Control Center.
    • Activate With CarPlay: Driving will be activated automatically when your iPhone is connected to CarPlay."

Then turn on the Driving Focus detailed here:

"Turn the Driving Focus on or off

If you already have the Driving Focus set up, you can quickly turn it on or off from Control Center:

  1. Open Control Center.
  2. Touch and hold Focus, then tap Driving to turn it on or off."

If the issue continues, it might be software related. Please also check for any pending iOS updates, which can help make sure the software is working as expected. This Apple Support page can help get those updates installed: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

"Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch wirelessly

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. Choose the software update that you want to install. You can choose to stay on iOS or iPadOS 15 and still get important security updates. Or you can choose the option to upgrade to iOS or iPadOS 16.

The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

We hope this helps resolve the issue so the Driving Focus stays on until you turn it off.

Cheers!
