Thanks for that suggestion...my next question is if I do it that way, can I be selective as to what data I transfer?...I don't want to transfer all the data and was under the impression using Time Machine I couldnt be selective..is that correct?
Thanks. So back to the original question, can I use a Cat 6 or 8 cable and will I be able to transfer files by plugging cable in to the Ethernet port on the power adapter?… sorry if this is repetitive, want to make sure I buy the right cable and do it right. Cheers.
Yes a CAT 6 cable between Mac’s will work fine for File Sharing.
More to the last question...if I use Time machine, what cables do I use to hook up the source to the imac or is it done through wifi?...cheers :-)
Time Machine migrates everything.
If you just want to transfer a few files, then a Ethernet connection will work just fine.
No you have to physically plug the Time Machine backup drive into the new Mac.
Which may require a USB-C to USB-A adapter if the backup drive has USB-A cable.
