Prevent exit from Schooltime

Hi,

I am considering getting an Apple Watch for my daughter to use. I don't want her to be distracted during the school day, so at first I was happy to read about the Schooltime mode. However, it appears that the user can exit the schooltime mode at any time. Is there any way that Schooltime can be kept active during the whole school day? I don't want to have to be policing her records of Schooltime exits and asking about each of them. I just want her to have a distraction-free watch during the day and a way to communicate with me after school. If there are other workarounds, I'm all ears.

Thank you.

I am facing the same issue which my son is always exit the schooltime and the teacher urged us to remind him about this. I have checked the time log and he exited the schooltime often. I think when child exits the school time, the app they could be used which should be limited.

The idea of the watch and app is good but not consider about the parent and child benefits. Children could not always focus on digital products when they have one on their hands.

Although the watch goes back to Schooltime, when she exits it, she has full access to all the apps on the watch. I don't want her to be able to exit and use apps/check messages during Schooltime. The whole point is to have a distraction-free environment. I agree with all the comments from marshyfromtx - there should be an option to limit app availability if exiting Schooltime remains an option.

Hello,

Use Screen Time to configure controls for a family member’s Apple Watch. With Screen Time you can schedule time away from the screen, and limit both contacts and the apps your family member can use to communicate with those contacts. You can also impose limits on iTunes Store and app purchases, explicit content, and location information.

To set up Screen Time, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on the iPhone used to manage the watch.
  2. Tap My Watch, tap Family Watches, tap a watch, then tap Done.
  3. Tap Screen Time, tap Screen Time Settings, then tap Turn On Screen Time.
  4. On the following screens, configure options for allowable content, communication safety, time away from screens, and app and website limits.
  5. Create a Screen Time passcode.

Hopefully this helps as well.

In order for schooltime to be effective it cannot have a temporary exit without restrictions. If a temporary exit is allowed, I need to be able to limit what apps and what contacts are available for use in this mode. For example, for schooltime to be COMPLETELY 100% distraction free, the only thing my child should be able to do when they temporarily exit schooltime is to message or call approved contacts, and only approved contacts. Additionally, a push notification alert on the parent device should occur when schooltime is temporarily disabled, and an audible alert should be played on the watch to prevent temptation for unlocking during quiet testing or instruction time.

Hello Parahelia,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

If we understand your post correctly, you want to know if there is a way to prevent your daughter from exiting the Schooltime mode. We're happy to help!

Your daughter should only be able to display Schooltime temporarily.

Exit Schooltime temporarily

Your child can exit Schooltime temporarily to do things like check messages. To exit Schooltime, turn the Digital Crown, then tap Exit to confirm.
If a Schooltime schedule is active, Schooltime mode resumes automatically.

Use Schooltime on Apple Watch

When your daughter exits Schooltime does it go back to the Schooltime or is she able to exit it for the rest of the day?

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
