Had a photo library on an external drive. How do I link on my new IMAC 24 my external drive? Don’t want to load my pics on the Imac, too many pics
Plug it in to the mac
Hold down the option key while starting photots. Click "other library" and navigate to the one on the external drive. Or double click it in finder.

when I select the external drive, on the screen it shows that it is updating library. What is it updating, hope it is not loading my pics on the IMAC.
No, that means the library was created by an earlier version of photos. It is now updating the library (where it is now) to use with the current version.
