keyboard symbols do not work
Numbers and symbols at top of keyboard do not work. Any solutions, short of buying a new keyboard. Current keyboard and Mac are 10 years old.

They work in no apps or the work everywhere except when using the Numbers app?
If an entire row of keys does not work it may be a hardware problem. I don't know the electrical layout of an Apple keyboard to say that with certainty, though. I assume you have tried unplugging/plugging in the keyboard, rebooting, resetting the PRAM and all the usual universal fixes (hopefully) to odd problems.
