M1 iMac MDM lock. Can I replace the logic board.

I bought on eBay what was a supposed to be, just an iCloud password forgotten machine. Turns out Apple didn't know as I called them prior to purchase with the serial. They said, not stolen, has apple care, get receipt. I did! Well the MDM is locked. Apple said its half removed but the company or organization said it was still on the MDM servers. I asked to return it and do the right thing. Apple said no it's ok, we can't do anything. I made a request for apple to remove it, they said it may take 30 days. The seller said they would give me a partial refund making the iMac 8 core 8 gpu orange ion perfect shape $400 plus tax. Well now I have some thinking. Can I replace the parts? I have everyones blessing. I know I lose the serial but hey, life is short, I am handy.

Can we do this to the M1 iMacs??? Thank you!

I do not think a "civilian" can get current parts as iMacs since 2012 have not been considered "user-serviceable." Even were they available, you would be throwing good money after bad, with no guarantee that the computer will work after you install new parts.

Your best action is to demand a full refund of your money and shop at Apple. The computer was misrepresented and not properly prepared for sale. Do you want a "half refund" from a seller who has already proven untrustworthy?

I've been here 20+ years and cannot count the number of reports just like yours where someone just had to have a high-demand Apple product "now" and was not content to wait to get it from Apple. The results were just like yours—agony. Auction sites are not the place to buy sealed-case Macs you cannot repair yourself.

Most of our Macs and iPads are Apple-direct refurbs and none have even posed an issue to full and reliable use. My first iMac 27 was a high-end i7 processor model that retailed for US$2300. As a refurb, it cost me US$1700. Deal.

Run away after getting all you money back and report the seller to eBay for his misrepresentations. You are dealing either with a scammer or an idiot.

You need to realize that there is nothing you can do with that Mac. It is not Apple's fault that their features actually work; the seller is responsible. Personally, I would not accept a partial refund - I'd point the facts out to both the seller and ebay and demand return postage and a 100% refund or I would file a report with IC3 (internet crime unit) as well as inform my bank that this was a fraudulent transaction and ask that they initiate a chargeback claim. That will definitely get ebay's attention.

As for these seller ratings at ebay - I wouldn't believe any one of them. A large number of software sold at ebay is pirated and I wouldn't believe any claims about hardware.

And, starting a different thread does not help here - I understand your frustration, but you need to focus on ebay and the seller instead of trying to fix something that cannot be fixed.
