I am donating my old MAC. I followed the instructions to erase my files using disk utility. However, when I went to make sure my files had been deleted, my MAC started up with a blinking folder with a question mark. I followed the instructions to power down, power on, and then hold down and command and R button. However, it doesn't work. I still only get a blinking folder. What do I do now:?

I will dissamble my old imac,and ,disable the Harddrive and with a Hammer i will destroy the Harddrive!

You can do whatever you like, but the world's environment would thank you as well as people less fortunate than you to be able to get one. My main concern is the environment though.
You need to erase and reinstall macOS,
