splitting region modifies sound

I want to import several midi files, cut out segments and glue them together. The problem: as soon as a split a region in the first imported midi file, this immediately spoils the sound. In the original the notes were distinct, and now they sound as if the pedal is pressed all the time, a kind of squash.

How can I cut a piece without spoiling the sound?

The Sustain pedal is also a MIDI event, if you cut in a place where the Sustain pedal is on you've cut out.... pedal off. Also notes have Note On and Note Off MIDI events... cutting a file during a note on omits the note off event. When cutting with the scissors tool you should get a pop-up dialog box with choices... correct?

So it is a bad idea to cut a midi file. Then, I guess, I have to transform it into some other format and cut it afterwards? What is the best way of doing this (where and under which terms I can find instructions)?

I do not remember anything about the popup dialog.

Do you mean I can choose there the option of cutting everything except the pedal?

But in fact I don’t think the pedal was pressed at the moment where I cut.
