Why does “Instant Message” field in Contacts app just open Messenger app not chat with that user?

I added a FB Messenger link using the format m.me/username as an instant message link to some contact on my iPhone,

but when I select it from “Send Message” menu, it just opens the app not a chat thread with that user.

Anybody can help?

You would have to ask Meta, who created the Messenger app.

That’s why I don’t use any Meta products or services.

Or more accurately, that’s one of the reasons I don’t use any Meta products.
