I am trying to buy a new iPad. I need an app specific password. However I have never had an app specific password for my old iPad. How do I get information on the new one when it says I need to enter what I never had to begin with?

I did add a passcode, but then it said that would be used for my Apple ID password. I didn’t want to replace that on all of my apps. Was that correct, or did I do something wrong ?
You are welcome. An app specific password only works for the app you created the app specific password for. It doesn't replace your Apple ID password anywhere else. You didn't do anything wrong.
Privacy settings. Select app specific password and select the app you are using.
