M2 compatability with microsoft update

I just bought a 13" MacBook Pro with M2 chips with Monterey. I had no idea it would be difficult to run and update standard software on the M2 chip. I have installed Microsoft office for Mac on this device (version 15.29) and it seems to work. However, I cannot download or use Microsoft update for some reason. I can't update or check for update from within office apps. I am assuming this is because Microsoft update won't work on M2 machines. Is there a workaround for this?

Just because you can install a 64-bit version of Office 2016 for Mac on Monterey, doesn't mean that this pre-2017 release of Office (15.29) was designed (or optimized) to work with the changes in macOS Monterey, or that it will receive any feature or security updates from Microsoft as it was retired in Oct 2020. If something does not work correctly, neither Microsoft nor Apple can resolve it now.

I suggest you get current with Office 2021 for Mac, or a subscription to Microsoft 365, either of which were designed and optimized for Monterey and in particular, the Apple Silicon architecture.

Currently, Microsoft supports and provides feature updates for Office 2019 for Mac, Office 2021 for Mac, and Microsoft 365 applications on Catalina and later. Once macOS Ventura is released this fall, and shortly thereafter, Microsoft will support macOS Big Sur and later.
