How to sign out of Facebook Messenger app on iPad

How to sign out of Facebook Messenger app on iPad? There seems to be no logout option on the app. I expect Facebook designed it to spy on us with no shut-off. Thanks.

iPad Air, iOS 12

Hi Filet2021.

FB does not make it easy, and of course it is to their advantage for you to stay logged in and clicking around which creates more exposure to ads. It’s understandable and to your advantage to know your degree of, and to be satisfied with your desired level of security.

You should be able to log out of Messenger this way:

From FB screen, click on the “hamburger” (3 horizontal bars lower right).

Scroll down to Settings & privacy.

Then “Settings”.

Under Account select Password and security.

Then see “Where you’re logged in.”

You should see your devices on which you are logged in, with which apps.

Select the device you want to sign out from.

Then click “Log out”.

Back on the Password and security screen > Where you’re logged in > click on “See all” to see past sessions. [mine shows sessions back to Mar ‘22 at the moment.] There, you can sign out of all sessions.

Cheers!

Spy on you? That's a bit paranoid.

If you want to sign out of Messenger, you have multiple options.

  1. If you don't want to use the app, delete it.
  2. If you want to deactivate the account, in the upper left hand side of the screen is a globe with your FaceBook Image. Tap it. Go down to Account Settings > Tap Security and login > Account ownership and control
  3. Perhaps be a little less paranoid

Thanks for your suggestions. The question is, how to log out of Messenger.... You seem like a trusting soul. Not me, I've downloaded 2 viruses too many off FB and had to change IDs & passwords. They offer no solutions if you get scammed, hacked, or had your hard drive infected. My brother lost a hard drive from clicking on a photo ad on FB. They'll take anyone's money and look the other way. They've been blocking me since I started using a privacy browser and a Virtual Private Network. They hate that **** because they use your browsing and email data for their advertising system. I've thought about quitting FB but I can't afford it, because some people use it to book personnel on gigs.
