how to retrieve deleted messages

Once deleted, messages are erased permanently.

If you have a device backup that includes the messages, and you do not use messages in iCloud, you can factory reset and erase your device. Then, use your backup to restore the device. You'll lose anything new since the backup was made but you might recover your messages.
