macbook mid 2010 update?

I have a min 2010 Macbook (not a pro) - the thick white one...it is running el capitan, 10.11.6. Is there a way to update/upgrade this machine? I need to use this for work for a while- I just can't afford to replace it just yet. I have upgraded the ram to two 2gb cards. I have wiped all documents and photos off of it to help... Can I upgrade the actual hardware in it inexpensively?

iMac, OS X 10.11

• How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support

//support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683

See "High Sierra" 10.13.6. That's said to be supported

as last upgrade in your Mid-2010 MacBook 13-inch.

"macOS High Sierra" can upgrade Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion

(macappstores://apps.apple.com/us/app/macos-high-sierra/id1246284741?mt=12)

macOS High Sierra - Technical Specifications

(Link to get this from 'get old versions' article

~ would require Safari browser, to access link)

The other specs you've not provided may or not

be OK, for this system requires more resources.

Also the hardware may be marginal too; a newer

Mac OS of this caliber would want APFS+ format.

PS: you may enter your MacBook 13-inch mid-2010 build year model

into this 'guaranteed to work' page to locate any hardware updates.

The page below includes memory/RAM, SSD/HDD, battery, etc.

Depending on the brand and exact type of RAM you have

there may be an issue. Certain versions of similar spec RAM

have problems w/ Mac computers. OWC & Crucial are best.
