iOS 15.6 update caused an error where the phone no longer accesses mobile data, nor makes or receives calls. I follow the instructions to re-do the update by connecting the phone to a MacBook but it just says software is up to date. What should I try next?

Contact your mobile data provider.
After 3 calls with Apple Support the phone has been diagnosed as being cooked. Nothing to do with the service provider. Some sort of weird software glitch in the update. Apple engineers are on the case😬
