New Apple 7 watch, does not respond when sliding fingers on face. Is there a setting that has locked the screen?

I got a new Apple Watch 7 series, yesterday. Worked fine. Now will not respond to get notifications, or see battery, etc. when sliding my fingers on face. Nothing happens when sliding my finger any direction, except for left & right to change watch face. Is there a setting I may have messed up?
