Where are those files? In an external drive?

Does, for example, TextEdit, open the same files?

You may need to allow Word "Full Disk Access" in System Preferences->Security & Privacy->Privacy

Thanks so much Luis!! I have not had trouble opening Word documents for years until until this morning. Years ago I bought a non-subscription CD with the Word program and it worked fine til this morning's incident. I don't know why all all of a sudden all my files resulted in the "File does not exist" popup message.

To answer your questions,

a) the files were on my desktop & harddrive

b) "text edit" could open them, but formatted differently

c) I tried what you suggested, in system preferences, when to "security & privacy" and allowed Word full disk access and IT WORKED!!! I can now open all my Word files. Thanks so much!

James
