I connect Mac mini (M1, 2020, macOS Monterey 12.5) with DENON AVR-1600H via HDMI cable.
The following speakers are connected to AVR-1600H.
- Left speaker
- Right speaker
- Center speaker
- Subwoofer speaker
- Left surround speaker
- Right surround speaker
- Left top middle speaker
- Right top middle speaker
In Audio Midi preference app of Monterey, I configure the speakers as 5.1.2 Dorby Atmos surround.

When I test the speakers via the Audio Midi setup app, 7. Left top middle speaker and 8. Right top middle speaker do not sound at all.
If I click the test button for 7. Left top middle, 5. Left surround speaker sounds instead of 7. Left top middle speaker.
If I click the test button for 6. Right surround, 6. Right surround speaker sounds instead of 8. Right top middle speaker.
When I test the speakers using Dorby test tone downloaded from "https://download.dolby.com/us/en/test-tones/dolby-test-tones_5_1_2.mp4", 7. Left top middle and 8. Right top middle do not sound while the other speakers sound.
I understand that the similar problem has been discussed in the community.
My speaker configuration for 5.1.2 isn't … - Apple Community
However, when I play a music file supported by Dorby Atmos distributed by *Apple Music with Music app*, 5. Left surround and 6. Right surround do not sound while 7. Left top middle and 8. Right top middle as well as other speakers sound.
When I play a movie supported by Dorby Atmos distributed by *Apple TV+ with Apple TV app* of Monterey, 5. Left surround and 6. Right surround do not sound while 7. Left top middle and 8. Right top middle as well as other speakers sound.
In my environment, my Mac mini can sound more than 5.1 outputs. As described above, my Mac mini can sound the speakers 1 to 8.
However, I believe that Mac cannot distribute the sounds correctly on the surround speakers and top middle speakers.
Unfortunately, I cannot find any more idea to solve the problem.
I have discussed the problem with Japanese Apple support, but they (and I) are confused and they cannot solve the problem.
