Recently reminders are out of sync on my apple watch

Reminders on my watch are out of sync with the reminders on my iPhone and iPad. This just started 2-3 weeks ago.

AnnieL2,

I believe my reminders are synced via iCloud. I have been updating them (changing reminder times, modifying reminder text, deleting them) via my iPhone or iPad with no issues for a couple of years at least. The reminder notifications would pop up on my watch, but I never changed times or text, just dismissed them. I actually thought the reminder notifications on my watch were from my phone. It wasn’t until recent problems that I realized there is a reminder “app” on my watch. And when I open it up to look at the reminders on my watch they are stale (never received updates I made on my iPhone or iPad). I cannot delete any reminders on my watch or update them in any way, or least I do not how. It seems these stale reminders find there way into my iPad and iPhone reminders, corrupting them. I also tried to stop the reminders on my watch from accessing iCloud, but I do not how. This is a recent problem that arose just in the last 2-3 weeks. I powered off all 3 devices and at least 5 reminders on my watch under “Today” are stale/old. Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

Salutations Whatever_60,

Let’s take some steps to help resolve the situation.

When you say the reminders are out of sync, are you not seeing the reminders list on all devices, is the issue notifications or something different? Do you use iCloud to sync your reminders or another type of account?

As a preliminary step, let’s have you restart all the devices involved then test again.

Restart your iPhone

Restart your Apple Watch

Restart your iPad

Thanks.

Hello Whatever_60,

Thanks for updating us with this information!

Let's confirm you're up-to-date with the latest software on all of your devices to see if that could be related to the discrepancy in syncing your reminders. Be sure you have a recent backup of your device before installing the update, if one is available. The following resources will help with these steps:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support

If you're up-to-date with the latest software versions, let's try the steps of the following resource to see if they clear this up for you:

If your iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders won’t sync - Apple Support

In addition to those steps, we'd recommend clearing out the reminders that are overdue on your Apple Watch as that may clear up the discrepancy to allow syncing to resume. For assistance with this, view the steps below. They can also be found here: Set and respond to reminders on Apple Watch - Apple Support

Delete a reminder, choose a default list, reorder lists

For an Apple Watch that you set up for yourself, you manage some aspects of reminders on the paired iPhone.

Delete a reminder: Open the Reminders app on your iPhone, tap a list that contains the reminder you want to delete, then swipe left on the reminder.
To delete a list, swipe left on it.

Choose a default list: If you create a new reminder outside of a specific list, it’s added to the default list. Open the Settings app on your iPhone, then tap Reminders. Tap Default List, then tap a list.

Change the order of your lists: Open the Reminders app on your iPhone. Tap Edit, then drag the list to a new location.

If you're still unable to resolve this after the previous steps, Contact Apple Support directly to have this checked into in more detail.

Cheers!
