My Apple Music Plays the Same Songs

I have a ton of songs, 1.55 gb. Problem is, it keeps playing the same songs. I have it on shuffle as well as repeat is off. How do I fix this? I don’t want to go through the trouble of making playlists. I’m always clicking shuffle over and over. It will play a couple different songs but then goes back to the ones that were recently played. Super annoying.

Thanks for responding! My iPhone is always up to date. I use Apple Music through the app only. This has been an issue constantly, for years now. I just became fed up recently coming back from a road trip and I had to constantly hit shuffle because just and hour before, the same song played. It happened a few times. This is why I thought to reach out to find a fix.

We’d like to gather additional details that may help us be in a better position to assist you. How do you initiate playing the songs? Are you using a widget, a shortcut, or through Siri?

Also, do you have a different Apple device that is signed in to the same Apple ID?

If yes, are you experiencing a similar issue with your other device? These details can help us in isolating the issue.


In the meantime, we recommend that you check for a software update.

While it isn't inherently assured that an update will resolve the issue, updating to the latest software version for your device can help isolate potential software issues. 

Kindly secure a backup and update.

We’d like for you to check a couple of settings to see if one or the other could be causing this. Make sure that Autoplay and Repeat are both off, then restart your iPhone and test:

If you’re still unable to shuffle songs, let’s delete the Music app and re-add it again. Please be aware that any songs you’ve downloaded for offline listening will need to be downloaded again. Delete built-in Apple apps from the Home Screen on your iOS 14 or later or iPadOS device or Apple Watch - Apple Support
