My Macbook pro 2019 screen cracked by just 0.5mm camera cover sticker

Ive been using very thin sticker to cover macbook camera for security reason for a year without any problem until yesterday when I opened my Mac, the screen went black with a tiny nail sized fine hairline crack on the screen. I went to Apple store, they said it’s my fault and classify it as physical damage by customer charged me me around $1000 to change entire screen and the parts take 5-8weeks to be delivered.

it’s Macbook pro 16inch late 2019 which costed a little less than $4000. How on earth can screen crack with a sticker??and charge such amount? Can anyone help how I can handle this?

If you have AppleCare+ it will cover a large portion of accidental damage.

It is hard to tell from the photo, but to me that looks more like a scratch on the glass than an actual crack. Either way it is still considered accidental damage. All of the camera covers I have seen have all been too thick causing the display not to close fully which puts pressure on the glass. I've only seen one super thin camera cover that did not do this, but it was a very flimsy one. A Post-It Note would work just as well.

If you are concerned about security & privacy with the camera, then you may want to provide Apple with product feedback to suggest having a physical kill switch for the camera.
