No Audio when importing Mini DV on IMovie using firewire/thunderbolt

Has anyone encountered this problem?

I took me a while to resolve it (2 weeks) intensive research with no success.

Finally i was successful in importing them on quicktime.

Plug the firewire to your Mini DV camcorder and adapt it to connect to your mac (Thunderbolt or USB C whichever you have)

When you open quicktime, navigate to file>new movie recording.

Select the Mini DV camcorder on the list underneath the record button for audio & video, don't forget to increase the volume.

play the tape on the camcorder, you will see the video on your mac, if audio is still missing, select a different device for audio from the list underneath the record button, and then reselect back the camcorder name again. this would bring the audio back to your mac.

You can start recording now.

this is where the video file will be recorded just in case anything happens. The video file will be autosaved, no need to panic.

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX/Data/Library/Autosave Information/

just right click on "Unsaved QuickTime Player Document.qtpxcomposition" and then open it using quicktime, then save it.
