How to stop Music app adding every audio file to library.

I have an issue where any audio on my system automatically opens the Music app and adds the audio to library. For example, if I download a voice message I've been sent and I highlight it to select the file it automatically opens Music and copies the file to the library. I have looked for a setting where I can disable this behaviour but I don't see anything.

I have also changed the settings for my mouse in case the double click was set too fast and was triggering the issue but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

Any suggestions or anyone else notice this happening?

Apologies if I haven't explained it very well.

Thanks in advance.

I'm using an M1 MacMini - MacOS 12.4

Dave,

That is a setting in your browser, not in Music.

For example, if you are using Safari, go to Safari Preferences, General tab, and uncheck "Open safe files after downloading."

If you are using Firefox, go to Preferences, General, scroll down to Applications, and make sure any audio formats are set to "Save File," not to open.

I have not intended to play the file in Music/iTunes, that's the problem. If I even highlight an audio file just to view its info it will quite often open Music and add it to library.

You have given me an idea though, I will change the settings in my preferences to default audio file replay from another app and see if that solves the problem, logically it should so fingers crossed it will be resolved. Thanks for prompting the idea.
