This appears to be a mac issue. Has shown up on my iMac on several apps - libra office, open office, numbers. When I move spreadsheet to my laptop no problem. So something on my iMac is causing this. no I do not have malware program on my mac. Ideas?
Downloaded newer version of excel and same is happening with it although at a much slower speed. Please help.

That kind of sounds like a mouse, trackpad or keyboard issue.
(a faulty swipe or possible a sticky arrow key)
Depending on which devices you use, as a test try disconnecting them one at a time.
(note: most any generic or PC USB keyboard and mouse can be used for testing)
