Move the mouse so the pointer is over the notes pane
if using an Apple Magic Mouse; run your finger down the back of the mouse
if using a mouse with a scroll wheel; move the wheel
if using a mouse with no wheel; move to pointer over to the left of the notes pane and drag the slider up or down

Many thanks for that.
Clicking on the left of box is really counterintuitive.
What were they thinking? :-)
With my system, clicking on the left enabled the scroll bar on the right!
Apologies, I should have said: if using a mouse without a wheel; move the pointer over to the right of the notes pane which will reveal the scroll bar, then drag the slider up or down.
I spent 2 days clicking on the right!
it just did not work. Very strange!
clicking on the left did the trick!!
go figure!
