Apple Studio USB-A ports with External USB Bose Companion Speakers - sound dropping

Hi,

Just set up my Apple Studio Max and migrated my hardware configuration from a 2017 iMac Pro.

Previously used the Bose Companion speakers via iMac Pro USB-A ports without a problem.

Connected the usb speakers to the Studio's USB-A ports and it works for a while, then drops out. Speaker still shows in the system preferences, but no sound. Disconnecting and reconnecting fixes the issue, but I don't want to be doing that every 5 minutes.

Curiously, I have no issue if I use a USB-C adapter and plug the speakers into a Thunderbolt port.

I noted on another post that someone had an issue with USB-A port and a USB Mic being recognised but not taking any sound input.

Is there a power issue with the Studio's USB-A ports?

Any ideas?

Regards,

Dom

HI, thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure I understand the rationale.

On the USB-A (5gb) the speakers are unreliable (and the port should be backward compatible, no matter how old the speakers are).

It works perfectly on the 40gb Thunderbolt 4 port (with a usb c to usb a adapter).
