Brand new laptop
I got my new MacBook Pro today. Immediately after opening it updated the software but then prompted me for a password that I have never set up. It’s the firm meat thing I have done with it.
MacBook Pro (2020 and later)

If it's asking you for a password, it's not a "brand new laptop", it's used and the seller didn't set it up properly for resale.
Take it back to the seller and ask it be either fixed at his expense or the he replace it with what he claimed you bought.
