Message notifications OFF?

On my iPhone 7, Although I think I have notifications turned ON, I get no sound when I get a message, and the sender gets a message saying I have notifications turned OFF.

Check you are not running any Focus sessions.

Settings, Focus.

No Alert SOunds On my iPhone 13 PRO I am no longer getting any Notification sounds. In settings, it shows I should be getting sounds, and I've set specific sounds for mesages, messenger, etc. I do get a banner at the bottom of the screen. So I never know if I have a notification unless I look at my phone. Missing lots of messages because of this. What could be causing this?
