Apple Update caused hard drive issues

Tried to create a new folder in my Seagate HD it worked previously, until apple issued an update, have discovered this was then issue, I can't reformat as I would lose everything, last straw, will now get rid of all apple machines and go over to windows, they have lost a customer of 30 years, but I don't suppose they care !

If your external drive is using the NTFS file system, then uninstall the manufacturer's software by following the manufacturer's/developer's instructions. Then reboot the Mac. This should allow macOS to use its native built-in NTFS driver to read the external NTFS volume, but you will not be able to write to it since the macOS NTFS driver only supports reading an NTFS volume. This should allow you to transfer the files to other media so you can erase the drive so that you can use either MacOS Extended (Journaled) for use only with Macs, or erase it as exFAT if the drive is to be shared with Windows. Make sure the drive is using a GUID partition when erasing it.
