You'll need to enable messages in iCloud for sync to happen automatically across devices.
Open iMessage on your Mac
go to the menu bar: Messages > Preferences >iMessage
Enable messages in icloud
Sync messages
On your iDevice
go to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud
Toggle on messages
