Why won’t subtitles stay off on Apple TV?

I’ve turned them off by the settings menu under the accessibility options but they keep playing on all kinds of apps and movies. It’s frustrating

  • The accessibility setting is for closed captions and subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing (i.e. more than just the dialog).
  • Regular subtitles are for the dialog only, and have a default in Settings﹥Video and Audio﹥Subtitle Language﹥. It has options for ‘Off’, ‘Auto’, and specific languages. ‘Auto’ should take the audio language into consideration, whether subs are likely needed or not, and which language should be preferred.

If your settings are correct, and this issue is only in one specific app,
