Plug symbol on macbook

Hello, how

What does it mean if the plug symbol on my MacBook is constantly displayed - even if the charger isn’t plugged into my laptop?

When I clicked on the symbol it says ‘service recommend’.

Before I decide to take that step does anyone know if it’s a battery issue? Does it need replacing?

My apple is a refurbished one bought a year ago; it’s a MacBook 12" Laptop, mid-2017.

MacBook, macOS 12.3

Please check this article If battery charging is paused or on hold on your Mac - Apple Support

and check if you can continue charging via this.

If not, it can be a battery issue. How long can you use the macbook without it being plugged in?

Thanks for your response; For the past few months I’ve been using a cable that has become twisted - I think this has contributed to the problem.

Just plugged in a new cable now, which has charged up to 7%, but now slipping down to 6% - and the plug symbol still on display.

The message in the Battery Preferences dialogue box read ‘the battery’s capacity is significantly reduced.’

The option to pause or place battery charging isn’t coming up.

I’ll get a new battery; thanks for your input!
